Creative Reading Performance

September 1, 2023

Immersed in an intimate, ecofeminist-inspired writing workshop, a group of women from Akkar participated in a transformative creative reading performance that was organized by KW in at Reef Festival (Rural Encounters on Environment and Film). The workshop came as part of KW’s community engagement rooted in its 2021 book, What Remains: Eco-feminist Pursuits.
The performance followed a week-long embodiment workshop, which included a hike to El Banet water spring and meditational exercises to activate memories, stories and reflections. The workshop created a richly intimate environment for participants, and fostered a unique connection between the participants and nature, as it reflected in their individual body maps. The women crafted personal texts, and in a culmination of shared experiences, they took to the stage at the “Reef Festival”fourth edition in September 2023. Their reading/performance weaved an intimate tapestry of ecofeminist narratives that echoed the profound connection between personal stories and the nature they are part of.
